I saw a Nintendo lamp that was making the rounds online and I thought, that’s pretty cool, I can do that. You can find the original HERE. I decided that I would tweak the design a little. Don’t you worry though, since I was destroying a Nintendo, I made sure to get stuff that was probably broken. With a little technical help from Sam, I was able to build the lamp. The Zapper actually plugs into the Nintendo, and the light only works if the Zapper is plugged in. A unique problem I had was that the red LED didn’t work anymore, so I had to put a new LED in. I burned a few out before Sam gave me a little lesson on voltages and let me know I needed a transformer. In a stroke of genius he told me to use a cell phone charger that would change the current to DC and drop down the voltage to what the LED could handle. So my Nintendo lamp has a cell phone charger soldered inside of it, as you can see from the pictures. And the cool thing is that the LED lights up when you hit the power button! I’m contemplating adding something else for the reset button to do, but I’ll hold off on that for a while. Enjoy the pictures. Oh yeah, if you have any ideas for something cool to do with a Nintendo controller, let me know since I hadabitofebayfeverandbought13controllers. Needless to say, I have lots of materials for future projects.

The roundest object ever made
28 09 2008I like when someone becomes so OCD they just have to set out to make the most blank something ever. Now this is for science and all (and yes, the article is a little old) but its pretty awesome what these guys did. They created this ball to solve the “kilogram problem”. FTA “The kilogram is the only remaining standard of measurement tied to a single physical object: a 120-year-old lump of platinum and iridium that sits in a vault outside of Paris, France. But the mass of this chunk of metal is slowly changing relative to the 40-odd copies kept by other countries, and no one knows why or by how much.” So they created this ball that has an exact number of silicon atoms that equal a kilogram, and it won’t degrade over time. Read the article, watch the video, and be amazed by the roundest ball ever made. Read HERE.

Brilliant. Porn. Kind of.
27 09 2008This is awesome. Someone took some old porn clips and cleaned them up a little bit. There really aren’t words to describe it. Unfortunately it’s been taken off of YouTube, but this gives me a good opportunity to plug a website that I check everyday. TodaysBigThing.com is an awesome site that puts one cool video up everyday. The videos are almost always cool. The only problem with the site is their unhealthy addiction to weird videos about cats. I’m not a cat person, and I think cat people are weird, but that’s a topic for a different day. Go see this video, you won’t regret it. It’s really funny. Especially if you like the acting in porn movies, but not the sex part. GO HERE

The Iceorb
19 09 2008I haven’t really written about any products I own because I don’t get anything out of it, but this thing I got was so cool I thought I should share. This is called the Iceorb, and it’s a vertical ice tray. Inside my cramped freezer we don’t really have anyroom for an icetray, or any flat surfaces to put an ice tray on. The Iceorb is perfect for me because I fill it with water, and it fits in my freezer like a pint of ice cream. The even cooler part is that after you make 25 ice cubes with it, you empty it inside of itself, and it holds those cubes while the outer layer makes more ice! Hard to explain, but the video on the site does a good job of it. Check out the site HERE. Also, its kind of expensive at $16. I bought mine of Amazon for $20 with shipping, but some hip cooking/kitchen stores do carry them. Regardless it is an awesome purchase and I think its a pretty fuckin cool design. Yeah I said it.
UPDATE: Ok, so I got my IceOrb and used it, and didn’t read the instructions. I know, I’m an idiot. I usually read instructions and this just looked so easy. Anyway, I ended up breaking the plastic cup inside of it. Not the most sturdy design, but it was my fault. I still recommend this, but make sure that after you take it out of the freezer you let it warm up a little so that you can pull the blue cup out without breaking the plastic.

Mario tries to get some
12 09 2008It’s about time someone depicted the real version of what happens at the end of Super Mario Bros. Here’s this fat little plumber who goes to save a chick he doesn’t really know, and she’s supposed to fall in love with him at the end. And then there’s the stuck up princess who is rescued by this guy who went through hell and she won’t even give him a little peck on the cheek. This is one of Seth McFarlane’s new comdey shorts that are being put up on YouTube. Check his page HERE

How do you know it’s time to give up the dream?
9 09 2008Well, if you are the Bulgarian women’s hockey team, I think it’s pretty easy. In the European Olympic pre-qualifying tournament, the Bulgarian women (different from the men in the fact that their mustaches are thicker) were out shot 139-0 by Slovakia (who’s women are known for their hairy backs as opposed to faces). You would think that during such an ass kicking, the Slovakian women would let Bulgaria at least take one shot, just cause their goalie was sleeping and needed to be taught a lesson. But no, they didn’t. And not only did the Slovakians take 139 shots, they scored on almost 60% of them. Final score: Slovakia 82 – Bulgaria 0. And yes this is hockey, not football. Ice hockey. Where you score one point at a time. In a game that isn’t even 82 minutes long, they averaged a goal every 44 seconds. Had you gotten up to go to the bathroom you would have missed a 3-5 goal outburst depending on how much goulash you had eaten between periods. As if that wasn’t bad enough, in Bulgaria’s three game tournament life they were outscored 153-1. In HOCKEY. At least this is good news for spousal abusers looking for a mate: Bulgarian women sure know how to take a beating. And just to kick a three legged horse while its down, one final jab. What’s the difference between the Bulgarian women hockey players and the rest of Bulgarian women? The hockey players shower after three periods. [rim shot!] Thank you, I’ll be here all week.
